If you are talking about reliability, the direct competitor of LVS is the 
F5 BigIP series, as they are BSD boxes with custom software.  The others
like Foundry, Extreme, Alteon (now Nortel) and Arrowpoint (now Cisco) are 
switches with load-balancing and HA code.
