In that case, would PLUG do well with an IRC system?
(I remember there is a PLUG channel somewhere, who are the regulars?)

Jabber is more of an IM to replace proprietary ICQ, etc.  Since the servers
are operated by the network operators, they can control access.

This would be useful for things like coordination between remote teams on
things like, tracking down intruders?
