Debian unfriendly? Not quite. In fact, its install process is as easy to
use as RedHat's, Mandrake's or SuSE's. It gathers as much info about
your system first then builds it.

I installed an old version of Debian on a 486 after having observed
RH6.x being too slow on that machine. Debian for the most part was
useable, but a 486 definitely isn't something which I'd normally use for
everyday "ordinary user" use. Maybe for something dedicated, like a
firewall or file server, but not for "ordinary use." :)
