Hi fellow PLUGgers,
My struggle with SNMP and MRTG continues. After resolving the uptime
issue, I'm now confronted with issues as far as the bandwidth use is
concerned.
I'm downloading the MandrakeFreq ISOs right now, and I noticed that the
reports of MRTG and saddeningly low (Current In: 536.0 B/s, Out: 1183.0
B/s). So I fire up iptraf and watch eth0 (which is the interface connected
to the DSL bridge). Iptraf's reports look more real. Stable incoming rate
of 342.6kbps. That's 42.825kBps! Hmm...
So I make sure my mrtg.cfg is correct. Here is the segment for DSL
settings:
# PLDT DSL
Title[dsl]: PLDT DSL Internet connection
PageTop[dsl]:
PLDT DSL 256kbps/128kbps Internet connection

Target[dsl]: 2:private@localhost
MaxBytes[dsl]: 32000
Then I run 'snmpwalk localhost private' to make sure I've got the target
interface correct. It looks correct:
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifDescr.2 = eth0
For those who can read SNMP output, here's the rest of the information on
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.*.2:
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifIndex.2 = 2
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifDescr.2 = eth0
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifType.2 = ethernetCsmacd(6)
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifMtu.2 = 1500
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifSpeed.2 = Gauge32: 10000000
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifPhysAddress.2 = 0:60:67:2d:53:6c
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifAdminStatus.2 = up(1)
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifOperStatus.2 = up(1)
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifInOctets.2 = Counter32: 114581656
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifInUcastPkts.2 = Counter32: 77720
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifInErrors.2 = Counter32: 0
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifOutOctets.2 = Counter32: 3828532
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifOutUcastPkts.2 = Counter32: 53344
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifOutDiscards.2 = Counter32: 0
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifOutErrors.2 = Counter32: 0
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifOutQLen.2 = Gauge32: 0
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifSpecific.2 = OID: .ccitt.zeroDotZero
I checked out my LAN interface reports (mrtg) and they seem bogus, too.
Masyadong mababa. I wonder what I'm doing wrong. Help please, anyone. I
hope the information I've provided is enough. If you need more, just let
mek now and I'll do what I can to help you help me out. :)
