Stated thus, it's not far from the observation that tech people have
much in common with priests and pastors, which is probably why the
previous generation of techies were regarded as queer. hehehe.
Tech people tend to read more than the average person, though writing is
another matter altogether :-D
I dunno where I read this, but it is said somewhere that the growth of
Linux is mainly attributed to the fact that information is guaranteed to
be free and accessible. It just remains for people to learn how to
search for a particular subset of that information and assimilate it in
the shortest possible time.

True. But an exception to the rule is when one is part of a team and
another member can answer your question in three minutes. Your time is
then better spent applying the solution rather than searching for it.
Remember that even seasoned techies have to spend time reading and
comprehending information. To leave a team member to do the same thing
would only be detrimental to overall productivity.
