I doubt if things will chop. Decoding VCD's takes about 3% of my CPU
(xine) and about 0.5% (X server) for total 3.5%.

CPU load goes up to 5% or so when I'm running full-screen (1152x900, this
is HARDWARE SCALED, not just switching X to a lower resolution). Even
assuming a 4X increase in CPU load when decoding DVD's (since they are
640x480) that's only 20%. Hardly enough to cause chopping.

Are you using the latest NVIDIA drivers (not the open-source ones)? I am
*not* using an NVIDIA card, I'm using an ATI Radeon. 975MHz (overclocked)
Pentium-III -- note that Xine has SSE optimizations. BTW I also have a
VIA-based mobo, Abit VP6.
