hi, im trying to set-up a linux dialin server on our
development database server to allow our telecommuting
developers access the db from home. i got as far as
successfully authenticating remote users so ppp
connection is all fine. but i cant ping them or reach
them by whatever means so i guess my problem is
related to proper ip addressing (routing?). please
advise what's the proper addressing. below is my
current setup:
prefix: 192.168
.0.1
| eth0
--------------
| linux dialin |
| / db |
--------------
| |
ttyS0 ttyS1
.1.1 .1.2
where ip addresses assigned at ttySN are as follows:
/etc/ppp/options.ttyS0:
192.168.0.1:192.168.1.1
/etc/ppp/options.ttyS1:
192.168.0.1:192.168.1.2
my /etc/ppp/options:
-detach
asyncmap 0
modem
crtscts
require-pap
proxyarp
login
ms-dns 192.168.0.1
Do the dialin ppp ports need to have IP addresses on
same subnet as my ethernet port?
My remote users can connect via PPP without any
problem, but they cant see the server, nor can i "see"
them with the IP addresses they got assigned. any
hints please.
tia,
Mary Christie
