Hello!
Thanks for the help...need to do research on this...
..speaking of which, i stumbled on reiserfs, and rad
from the FAQ an entry about "...a winning combination
for an email server"...this gives me the impression
that reiserfs is somehow suitable for this purpose.
i basically know how a journaling filesystem works --
it basically uses some db-related
principles(transaction logs, atomic transactions, ACID
and stuff)
...but all that isn't really going to do you any good
when your hard drive croaks, and there's no backup
right? No backup, no restore -- no restore, no job B).
Based on tha FAq it is possible to do a snapshot daw,
but you need to set aside a partition that is
preferrably 1.1x your working partition -- is my
understanding correct?
That means that, when hard drive shopping, you should
consider your projected data x 2.2 or something,
right?
If that's the case then it's something similar to
having a RAID1, break the mirror, back up the unused
mirror, then joining them again?!? (i'm not too
familiar with RAID on linux, so i can't really say if
this is at all possible B)
