Or Postfix.
Or Exim.
Or if you insist Sendmail. But numerous members of the list have expressed
their opinions based on experience that Sendmail is relatively difficult
to configure, slow (because of its monolithic design), and buggy
(security-wise).

Lloyd, since you're new here, I recommend that you try out the PH Linux
Newbie mailing list as well. In particular it is preferred that
potentially "gasgas" (frequently asked questions) questions be asked there
before here. Why? Because we PLUGgers do our best to restrain ourselves
from flaming away in the PH Linux Newbie forum. Here ... we still restrain
ourselves but allow the occasional outburst depending on which bit we woke
up with. ;>
Also since you're new here I recommend you don't ask such "a vs b" or
"which is the best x" type questions (ie: what is the best {mail server,
distribution, filesystem}, among others). Why? Because they give those
with enough energy among us the chance to flame it out with each other.
QMail versus Postfix. QMail/Postfix/Exim versus Sendmail. RedHat versus
Mandrake versus Debian. And I hope you will agree with me that such flame
wars are unhealthy.
Perhaps better phrased questions (and sent to the PH Linux Newbie list)
will be more appropriate. My recommended phrasing will be something like:
"what are the various mail servers for Linux? would anyone have
recommendations for good reviews that compare the pros and cons of
these?". If anyone tells you x is best or y is best then ... I'll take
care of flaming that someone. (kidding). But really, I think it's best
that we all, as a hopefully neutral users group, be as even and as fair as
possible.
Sure, I prefer Postfix, Debian and XFS to QMail, RedHat and ReiserFS. But
this doesn't make them the best. And this doesn't make them the only
solutions. So I (in particular) have learned to shut up about this.
Occasionally I bite on someone who I believe says something false about
one of these "beloveds" of mine, but other than that I do my best to
recommend the alternative as well. After all, friendly competition is
healthy. And in most (read: not Micro$oft) cases, they're all free. :)
