AFAIK, the problem is stability of the firewire driver in linux.
You cant use it too on analog cameras. however, there is no problem with
speed (unlike in USB) even if you use two cameras at the same time with
resolution of 640x480 24-bit. there is no problem with dma too.
Therefore, you can take realtime video.
Hopefully in the long run with future kernel releases, firewire
will be a better alternative to pxc/bttv based framegrabber.
