Just a correction, Ian, it is now a /20 (4096) AND APNIC has converted to a membership org which means you now pay the annual membership fee of $2000(?) and get their services (IP allocation, AS number, etc.) for "free". Unlike before, APNIC no longer offers non-membership services. BTW, the size of the IP you lease (their term not mine) from them is tied to your membership type (small members get up to a /20 for free). > > uhmmmm it isn't so much the cost, really... we're looking to host our > > production servers at our new building at the fort when we move there... > > right now, those servers are co-located at an ISP; when we move them into Mr. Realubit, this is not what you indicated in your first post. You said you were concerned with redundant Internet access not services (which I tried to clarify). You wouldn't need BGP nor gated for that as per my suggestion. Ian's solution is more cost effective although doing so may mean 50% of your visitors will get to see the site and the other 50% will not (i'm shooting at figures here). If that is unacceptable, then consider getting your own AS and IP block and have your providers announce it for you. It'll still cost you the APNIC membership plus some ISP's charge more for BGP announcements (I know one of ours do). Since in your own words "...it isn't so much the cost..." then you might as well go for it. Alternatively you may want to have a U.S. hosting provider do the worrying for you if redundant Internet access to your LAN is not such a priority. IMHO, it ultimately really depends on how much uptime is necessary and how much downtime can be tolerated. M. Yu _ Philippine Linux Users Group.
