I encountered a similar problem wth RH6.2 when I treid to upgrade to
Berkeley DB (BDB) version 3.3.  I couldn't get it to work even after
recompiling the BDB source and installing it.  Luckily, our application that
uses BDB had to run on FreeBSD so I ended up recompiling db3.3 in BSD
without any problems.

Your best bet would be to send e-mail to the guys who wrote the API
(http://www.sleepycat.com).
