in general, scenario 1 will be better for most cases. the worst case
scenario for 1 where it becomes about equal to scenario 2 is when all the
connecting hubs/switches are all bridged together (at the data-link
layer). all packets will still flood the entire lan. logical subnetting
is at its best when there is also physical segmentation to separate each
broadcast domains. you can place a linux pc router with multiple lan
cards to do this.
