bridging is a different thing than routing. bridging works only on the data-link layer (Layer 2) while routing (where IP and masquerading is involved) need also to work on Layer 3 (network layer). bridging is good if you have only a few lan segements and machines you need put together as if they are on a single contiguous lan and the network is under one administrative technical control. other than that, you need routing na to keep those lan segments working more efficiently and to secure/control them better. pong _ Philippine Linux Users Group.
