Well, I guess that's how you separate hacks from maintainable code ;)

But seriously, I personally spend 40-60% of my allocated time on a project doing 
design stuff using OO tools (interaction, event trace, software contracts, class 
diagrams, etc), and supporting documents.  This is very important when working with a 
larger group, or when working with developers from other companies.
