I had an installation once with no swap. My RAM is 256 MB and the distro was Slackware 7.1. It ran with very few problems. But now that you've asked, maybe that's the reason while I get errors when I compile SSH while I'm on X. Labo. But the installation was very serviceable. The advantage of no swap more RAM setup would be speed and maybe longer hard disk lifespan. The disadvantage is cost. Mahal ang RAM. But the advantage is my speculation.
