you can use snmp to monitor what's happening on the NIC.  use ucd-snmp with
mrtg so you can monitor 1 server.  do the same with all other servers.
then, make a single mrtg config on one machine, which you specify in its
mrtg config

Target [combined]: public@server1 + public@server2 + ... + public@servern

you can make a single graph with all your server bandwidth usage, then you
can pinpoint.

in the 3300 3Com, yes there's SNMP, just activate it (you can configure the
switch initially by using a console cable used for 3Com routers, then
administer it via web if it has IP already).  but too bad, i haven't been
succesful yet in making that work with mrtg in spite of many tries.
