You know what Orly? I'm checking out gobe.com and the ArsTechnica review
right now. And I just came from chatting with my father about this, and
about a previous attempt of mine to migrate part of the office to
StarOffice that failed miserably.

My problem with StarOffice 5.2 (I have tried neither OpenOffice 641C nor
StarOffice 6.0, if it's actually been released) is, like you say,
compatibility with Microsoft Office's format. We have some spreadsheets
that just knock the hell out of StarOffice's "compatibility". So while
it's okay as is, in the real world of "MSOffice domination", it's a tough
choice.

And like you I'm not so sure about whether US$75 (plus shipping I presume)
is affordable for a test. Supposedly people with Windows versions get free
Linux versions when it comes out, and subsequent sales will be for both
versions in one box. Cool.

I also wonder what the license will say about having an application server
and having multiple thin clients run the same app from one box remotely.

In the meantime I will continue to read up on it, and hopefully will be
able to convince my father to shell out US$75 for us to test. It's really
the compatibility and the ease of migration that concern us for the
office. For me, it's the fact that we won't be tied to Windows. We're
still using Windows 95 here, and can't justify upgrading to Windows 98
just because the latter's been phased out. Really sucks, having expiration
dates on software! Por dios! :(
