Using rpm would come the closest to Installshield-like
functionality under Linux.  RedHat has had a graphical 
rpm package manager for a loooong time already.

That said, I think rpm violates the minimalist principle 
of Linux by putting too many layers of cruft on top 
of things. I find Slackware's tarball format to be the 
best balance between ease of use and access to internals 
(translates to ease of _fixing_ and _tweaking_).
