If it helps, my normal procedure for 2.4.18 is: 1) Recompile kernel to enable support for PPPOE (i do this for another project, not to make dsl work...try it anyway if you want). 2) Uninstall existing rp-pppoe packages (RH7.1 and gamit ko) 3) Install the latest rp-pppoe from roaringpenguin.com Everything should work after this.
