Likewise, telnet is evil. See, telnet does not do encryption, so anyone with 
a simple network sniffer can see your precious passwords and data as it
travels across the wire.

Fine if you trust your network, or if you tunnel over a secure connection.

But then, why take chances? SSH is much better. Use at least SSH version 2.
SSH is encrypted _and_ it lets you do all sorts of funky stuff like
scp (secure copy), sftp (secure ftp), and ssh tunnelling.

Way cool.

_And_ you even get color. The telnet built into Windows doesn't have that. ;)

You can even set it up to authenticate you using keys, which means either
not having to type any password or having to type just one. One could 
argue that that lessens security, but as long as you keep your private key
safe, you're fine.

SSH clients are available for all the platforms I know about. The one for
Windows is particularly cute. Look for putty, download it, and have fun.
