actually there are still UNIX/Linux systems that are still using the 
telnet service for the sake of its use. but you're better off with 
something like telnet if you need the service it provides, instead of 
having nothing to offer.

but then, if you can afford to use SSH (Secure SHell <- or so i believe 
this is what it stands for) instead of telnet, you're not only serving 
what telnet provides, but be able to serve it with encryption which 
offers a level of security better than telnet alone.

and btw, the person who created the sniffing program is brilliant - 
because its like a hammer. it depends really on how you use the hammer: 
to drive a nail through the wall, or to bash someone else's head in... 
its one thing to create/invent/produce something of use, and it's 
another to use that thing a certain way.
