Dude, if you think sniffers are used just to hack or crack a system is like
saying a knife is only used as a weapon to kill people. Sniffers can be of
great help when analyzing troubles in your network. Heck, you can even use
sinffers to prevent, or at least detect that someone 0wn3d j00! ;) And also,
if not for sniffers, we wont have free implementations of some proprietary
protocols because they're used to reverse-engineer protocols. Like we wont
have Samba if the Samba team weren't able to use sniffers to analyze the
traffic and implement Winblows file sharing on your favorite *NIX system.
