Best performance so far: Linux + 2.4.18 + ReiserFS + aufs + heap lru As the Squid developers said, tuning cache replacement is a fruitless activity as compared to tuning the file system and the access methods (ufs, aufs, diskd). Tip: Don't use dlmalloc and gnuregex options for the configure script anymore as these are slower than the libraries used in recent linux distributions.
