changing the printer "command" of OpenOffice
to "lpr.cups" or "kprinter -stdin" seems work now.

Debian GNU/Linux 2.2 (Potato). CUPS version 1.1.9. I think the problem
is with the filters (not ppd) as OOo/SO needs ppd-aware printer filters.
Might as well re-configure my setup here to use those filters ... :)
