It runs on X11 _with_ a deliberately modular design, so that Display
GhostScript, Display PostScript, or Display PDF can be used on the back
end, instead. The libs, development tools, and utilities in the process
of being fleshed out are the sub-surface 8/9 of the iceberg.

In other words, migration to something besides X11 is the _easy_ part,
and the GNUstep guys have concentrated on the difficult parts.

But, as a proprietary offering from a Steve Jobs company, it's walking
dead.  ;->
