An inode holds information about a file. The number of inodes actually present in the partition depends on the partition size and the parameters you supply to mke2fs when you formatted the partition. The smaller the block size the more inodes you can create (up to a certain point). Block sizes are normally 2k or 4k but I have been able to create 1k block size on really small partitions. I do not think it is necessary to set inode_max, because the maximum number of inodes on each partition depends on the partition size. Essentially inode_max is limited only by the 64-bit file pointer size and the actual number of GB or TB in your partition. PMana _ Philippine Linux Users Group.
