hi, are you NAT'ed or MASQUERADED? there are a somethings (if not alot of things) you cant do when you are behind this kind of router... as for the ftp with DAP, if your linux router uses iptables and takes advantage of statefull filtering and doesnt have the kernel module for ftp for NATed connections loaded then active ftp session will fail as connections from port 20 are not recognized as being ESTABLISHED or RELATED, use passive mode instead. also some ftp sites dont allow multiple simultaneous connections coming from the same source.
there used to be some kernel modules that helped when using specific services behind NATed or MASQUERADED connections in 2.2 like icq and quake but no one rewrote them for 2.4 it seems that problems like these have solutions specific to a service/protocol and there is no one cure.
