The box is standalone, so I guess it does the POP3 checking itself. So far
I've been able to get and send mail.

I'm lost here. How would I do that? Is that as simple as adding a couple
of new rules to the input and forward chains?

Also, I think my ISP has a proxy server. Would it be a better idea to get
it's IP from my ISP and then just allow packets from that IP address using
an explicit ACCEPT rule in my input chain?
