Rick already gave a pretty complete answer on this, but I'd just like to
add that the /etc/services file normally has neat info, too, covering
the official ports that services listen to. Also, when something's not
listed, you know it's either non-standard or funky, and either way know
that you must investigate further.

Perhaps a neater habit will be to run:
# netstat -lnp
This shows you which processes are listening on the ports, instead of
just on which ports your system is listening.

> tcp 0 0 *:6000 *:* LISTEN
> tcp 0 0 *:7102 *:* LISTEN
> tcp 0 0 *:sunrpc *:* LISTEN
> udp 0 0 *:sunrpc *:*
Make sure you modify /etc/hosts.{allow,deny} or create rules using
IPTables/IPChains so that these ports don't get accessed from outside.
