anybody who has actually _ported_ a digital camera to linux would
deserve much kudos. anybody wo has made their digital camera be
recognized in linux was lucky. <g>

sorry for the joke on semantics, i just couldnt let it pass. 

anyway, i think you will find more info on the gphoto (gphoto2?) site. a
friend brought his USB digital camera (i think it was a Kodak) and the
usb daemon, upon being re-ran, in my Mandrake 8.2 was able to detect it
and thus i was able to mount the camera at /mnt/kamera. win98 couldnt
even detect the device. :-) 

your mileage might vary.
