thanks for the links rick.  i'll look at them all and
see if there's that fits my need.  if i get something
working, i may write something up for posterity too :).

yeah.  it's not a mainstream requirement anymore, with
huge drives available for cheap.

right.  i was aware of those.  but i'll definitely look
at those links and see if there's something good for
general use as a regular RW file system.
