CMG's UCP is actually more prevalent than SMPP in the country.  last rumor
was Smart was going Logica's protocol pero ala rin nangyari. so, that leaves
two protocols, CIMD2 for Smart, and CIMD2 or UCP for Globe. both are text
based anyway, so it's all a matter of parsing, where perl shines.
