try this trick! does your machine(laptop) has any OS in it? (eg.
WINDOWS, DOS, etc?)
easy part.
1. update the BIOS so it can boot from the cd-rom drive.
or the hard part.
i did with redhat distro. i have'nt tried it on other distro's.
1. install DOS on the hard drive. then the system has something to boot
from. install the CD-ROM drive's driver (snag it at the manufacturers
website). when the driver is loaded, make sure the cd-rom drive works.
then cd to the dosutils directory of the redhat distro. and execute
autoboot.bat. then wait till it loads everything (from kernel to etc...)
and there you go! start partitioning ang installing your linux! (redhat).
2. If there is a windows installed (prefferably 98) mount the distro and
explore the dosutils directory. and double click on autoexec.bat and a
lil bit daunting window will appear with icons on it, look for the one
you like (any of those will work). then ok, ok, ok,. now click on the
start, programs, and the icon you choose should appear. click on it
(dont be nervous its ok! i did it on my laptop {whole day of figuring
out, voila! i now have a LINUX on laptop (IBM 760 XL 166 MHZ.) cool!!!
right?) the screen will go balck for a while (dont panic, hold your
breath) then it will load the kernel.... cool! now breath... as i said
go on and partition the drive, install it and presto! instant linux on a
laptop! you can even dual boot it! (mine is running redhat 7.1 and
98).... hope this helps! if not then go to google.com and search for
your laptop's how to...
Note: plan the drive partition your gonna make coz i got my laptop
unworkable for a week. and i learned a lesson from that. plan it first.
how will you partition the drive...
