I am not a veteran plug member to post my opinion here but I believe Orly has a strong point. When I joined plug and its newbie counterpart more than a year ago I enjoy reading my emails from the lists. I can say that most issues are intellectually challenging that make my time reading and replying emails productive. I dont regret wasting my time going through the nitty gritty of each thread despite I have better things to do. Recently, I notice there has been a decline in the quality of messages posted. I in fact have been waiting for the emails to come from our usual moderators like Jijo and Eric R who remind us from time to time to maintain the quality of these lists. It seems that they too got tired of policing the threads. And probably the decline is behind the reason why I dont see emails from people who used to post interesting messages/replies here.
I am not in anyway against girlie issues but they should have been in the proper place like plug-misc. "Chika-babes talk" in fact reflects our favorite pass time as "barkada" but I believe they arent in any way proper posts for Philippine Linux Users Group nor Ph-Newbie Linux Users Group where we deal with linux related technical issues. We should always remind ourselves that our mailings lists are public and therefore always under scrunity of 300Million plus internet citizens. The messages here are archived and will live as long as the internet lives. The nature of posts here is the nature our inclination as linux users from this country struggling to become an IT power house. Let's change before we drive away our home grown linux experts and before the two linux mailing lists become a waste basket or sex chatroom. I am wondering where the duly elected PLUG officers are. regards, rowel On Fri, 22 Nov 2002, Orlando Andico wrote: > > is it just me, or is the SNR in plug going down, down, down? > > the past few days have been a breathless "yay, ostensible Linux babes" > gaggle of messages. shouldn't this be on plug-misc? > > contrary to popular belief, not all of us are unattached geeks who might > have even the slightest interest in these issues. > > and yes, i know i'm degrading the SNR even further with this post. maybe > it's time to unsubscribe. > _ Philippine Linux Users Group.
