I know someone will notice. my mistake. so the mandrake packaging system is also
called RPM? is that right?

did you read between the lines? i was replying to ian's observation regarding
*maintanability*. let me quote ian's reply for YOU to understand, "...make install
kills maintainability, and gives hell to the next sysad in line (who will most likely
reinstall your server anyway)" see the message enclosed in parenthesis? that's what i
was replying for, in response to that. because we're talking about maintainability
meaning to say that whoever should replace the current sysad should not try to start
it all from scratch. but from ian's observation (which is correct), the should be
sysad will mostly re-install everything. and that's why i added that it's only
applicable (base on ian's observation) to enterprise and mission critical servers,
because re-installing it is a SCARY process. maybe you should try to understand the
meaning of the message that you're replying to...it will help you prevent from being
flamed!

ha! first you didn't understand the content, now it's the subject! i suggest you read
again and again and again this thread (specially the one relating to package managers)
until you understand it. it's not really about Slackware advocacy...there is more into
it...
