Or how about Ivan (ivan.sourceforge.net) vs. that overrated and outdated (100% certified troll :-P) Nethack. Ivan is available in DirectX 8 version (the one I'm using) as well as SDL (for Linux). It follows Roguelike conventions but seems more consistent and not as hackish as NH. Angband and derivatives I found too complicated to get into... Ivan is pretty accessible for those with even just a bit of experience with Nethack. Wizardry is still THE RPG that I really got immersed in though... _ Philippine Linux Users Group.
