it seems that our sysad has setup squid to be a proxy for everything (or
so it seems). i dont know how he did it, but http, ftp, ssl, and socks
have to go through the same ip and same port. if errors are encountered,
via ftp, like connection timeouts, a squid generated error page is
displayed. beats me on how that happens. ;)

thanks. it seems that it has nothing to do with evolution, and
everything to do with your HTML viewer (which in my case, is nautilus as
this is what evolution uses). i just needed to setup nautilus to work
right with the proxy, and poof - there goes dilbert. ;)

looks like i was looking for the answers in the wrong places... ;)
