If you look down at the bottom of that essay, it says (paraphrasing):

"Now that I've blown your factual misconception about Linux to holy hell, 
and thereby gotten your attention, you should _also_ consider that IDEs
are probably not the right approach in the first place:  Despite the
100+ IDE options we can offer, please consider doing your programming
the classic Unix way, and see if you aren't more productive."

Sometimes, to get people to listen to you, it helps to hit their
starting objections with a really big mallet, first.
