this happened to me before too. whenever i come to the office in the
morning, everything is slow as molasses. running top, i found out that the
logrotate process that started at around 12 am hasn't finished yet as of
8:30am and is eating up 96++% of CPU. i upgraded logrotate to a new version
(find one from RPMs, if you're running redhat/mandrake or similar distros)
and the problem disappeared.
