hmm...reiserfs would probably be good with this...although i tend to stick
to ext3 because it's easier to upgrade/downgrade from/to ext2.

for normal tasks i don't think maildirs are much faster than mboxes, but
they're safer (less probability of trashing the entire mailbox) and they're
NFS-safe too, should you want to go that route.
