You got it mixed up.  If you are refering to the boot loader issue, AFAIK all linux 
distributions will ask you first if you will allow them to install its bootloader in 
the MBR. Linux distros are not like WinXX which will not even ask you if you want to 
do it or not. Thus if you have other OSes in your drive you can temporarily not access 
them.  But with Linux distros, if you know how to set the proper boot loader 
configurations it will allow you to multi-boot without a hitch.

Tip you will need to virtually remap or switch your hard drives as the primary master
