in addition to what Dean said, I believe the fist step wiill be in compiling
a list of all companies, big or small, who are currently actively using
Linux not just as enterprise servers but as desktops as well. next, we also
need a list of companies who are seeking to use Linux in their organizations
but are currently looking into it.

this way, at least the white papers we compile will be as close to reality
as possible, not just our own perceptions.

for, me, just tell me how i could help in this endeavour.

on this note, i think it's high time that plug (or openminds) should
come up with several studies -- real ones -- that highlight the current
and future uses of linux and open source software in general, as well as
the benefits and realities in using and developing these technologies.

it is easier said than done, and IMHO advocacy is not enough especially
if you dont have facts to back you up. although experience counts a lot,
to a skeptic however, facts would hit harder. and to the uninformed,
facts are just what they need to be informed with.
