It moves around. Try this:

plug *ONE* NIC into your switch/hub/whatever.

Then run "mii-tool -v" command. You can find mii-tool in /sbin but if 
you don't have it (modern Red Hats have it) you can download it from 
Donald Becker's web site.

mii-tools will print out the media sense of eth0 and eth1. It will 
immediately be obvious because it will print something like this:

eth0: no link
eth1: 10baseT-HD, half-duplex

(or something like that)
so obviously the ethernet with a sensed media is the one you plugged the 
cable into.
