It moves around. Try this: plug *ONE* NIC into your switch/hub/whatever. Then run "mii-tool -v" command. You can find mii-tool in /sbin but if you don't have it (modern Red Hats have it) you can download it from Donald Becker's web site. mii-tools will print out the media sense of eth0 and eth1.
