wget is a nice tool on the "client" side, 
puedeng isabit on one of your scripts when 
then connection goes up.

sftp,ssh & family: i suggest not to use passwords, 
use public key authentication, its much safer
(because no passowrds are transmitted).

if your doing sftp might as well look into 
rsync -e ssh.  much efficient especially
if you have common files already on both
servers.  (Plus you can get ssh to compress
the connection.)
