If that is the case, then does it mean that I am left with no choice but
to purchase additional IP addresses?  A possible solution I just found
is to have the different virtual hosts occupy different SSL ports--
something I am not very keen on doing.

And regarding the IP addresses, it only applies to the external (public)
IP, right?  This is for cases where the server uses NAT.  I mean, more
than 1 external IP address can point to a single internal IP (where the
server actually is) without affecting the Apache and SSL setup. 
Correct?
