hi i dont have much experience  on this
but it seems to me that if you merge all your external IPs
to a single IP (if thats possible) then yur back to your 
original problem: your
apache box would then still be virtual hosting on 
ONE ip address (the internal one).  

If you have more than 1 IP why not just different
ethernet interfaces on them (same machine)...
