This is out-of-topic in the Mapalad list, but I hope that you do not flame me. I only want Mapalad members to know what "goodies" are available for free in the other side of the PDA fence.
While browsing the Zaurus Software Index, http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus, I came upon the following really GOOD "for free" items: 1. Maxima - a symbolic math package that can do symbolic algebra and calculus. Great for the student learning math. Must be outlawed during math tests. 2. Several programming language interpreters: perl (for cgi programming), python (for shell scripting), hugs (a Haskell implementation for lazy-style functional programming), clisp (a commong Lisp interpreter), and ruby (another scripting language). 3. Several text editors: micro-Emacs (Sacha Chua will love this) complete advanced macros and a large dictionary, vim, jed, joe. 4. Several HTML editors: including HTML Editor and DaskStar. 5. Several Palm doc readers: JustReader, DocReader, OpieReader. 6. A free distionary: zbedic which comes with large dictionary databases in several languages, all free. 7. Several free calculators: neocal 1.x, qtcalc, qplot, slcalc. 8. Several Number Theory and Matrix packages: pari, octave. These are all the stable stuff (not alpha ware or beta ware) that we all love to use. P~Manalastas _ Philippine Linux Users Group.
