i agree on most of your points but the sentence below is a generalization which makes it dangerous. it is still possible of OSS patches to break things (but not to the extent possible in System Redmond). The only plus factor is that if it does indeed break something, the fix should be around in 4 days (at the most) like the patch that broke the app's back. :)
