Iirc, JACK has a daemon component and afaik it's not
transparent to old apps.  Your apps must be written to
support JACK.  But the newer kewl audio apps seem to 
acknowledge that JACK is the way to go, giving it a good
chance of becoming the standard Linux sound daemon in the 
future.
